Mechanic Supervisor

The Port of Lake Charles is seeking candidates for the position of Mechanic Supervisor – A for its vehicle/heavy equipment maintenance department. The selected candidate will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment, vehicles and various other motorized equipment. This is a full-time Civil Service position, which includes benefits. No test is required.

The ideal applicant shall possess the ability to perform duties in the repair and maintenance of the Port’s heavy mobile equipment and fleet vehicles including: electrical, drive train, engines, hydraulics, and computer controlled systems. Experience in the repair of heavy mobile equipment and/or fleet vehicles and knowledge and experience of work order systems and preventive maintenance on mobile equipment is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include the possession of ASE Certification, CDL and experience with diesel engine equipment; as well as experience in managing and supervising personnel.

A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.

Performance of duties for this position requires manual physical labor such as standing, stooping, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting 30 pounds or more, work outdoors in all types of weather; and work around waterfront.

Maintenance Specialist

The Port of Lake Charles is seeking candidates for the position of Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 1, 2 or 3 for its Railroad Maintenance Department.  The selected candidate will perform duties in the repair and maintenance of the railroads of the Lake Charles Harbor & Terminal District (Port of Lake Charles) as well as operate, repair and maintain the equipment and machinery used in the railroad maintenance group.

Placement and salary will depend upon experience.  These are full-time Civil Service position, which include benefits. No test is required.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge and experience such as inspection and repair of railroad tracks and railroad switches, cleaning, lubricating and adjusting railroad switches, replacing railroad crossties, raising, tamping, and aligning railroad tracks; operation of backhoe, tamper, dozer, bush hog, dump truck and slope mower.

Police Officer

The Port of Lake Charles is seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer for its Harbor Police Department. This is a full-time state Civil Service position which includes benefits.

Applicants must possess a score for the Louisiana State Civil Service 9500-LEAPS Test to be considered for hiring – no exemptions. This test is distinct from municipal, parish, federal or other Civil Service exams. Testing locations and times may be found at https://jobs.civilservice.louisiana.gov under “Testing Information.”

The position is in a Career Progression Group and may be filled at the entry, second or third level (Police Officer 1-A, 2-A or 3-A), depending upon experience.

Starting Salary for Police Officer 1 – A is $14.54 per hour; for Police Officer 2 – A is $15.56 per hour; and for Police Officer 3 – A is $16.65 per hour. Police Officers of the Harbor Police Department are eligible for State Supplemental Pay ($500 per month), when qualified.

For Police Officer 1 – A, no experience is required; for Police Officer 2 – A, one year of law enforcement experience is required; for Police Officer 3 – A, two years of law enforcement experience is required. College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

A TWIC card is required to work on Port premises. A current P.O.S.T certification is preferred. Candidates should possess good writing and interpersonal skills, the ability to understand written and verbal instructions, and possess basic computer knowledge.

Human Resources Analyst

The Port of Lake Charles is seeking candidates for the position of Human Resources Analyst A, B or C. This is a full-time Civil Service position, which includes benefits. A passing score for the Louisiana State Civil Service Professional Level Exam (8100-PLE) is required before applying.

This position serves as the sole Human Resources administrator / advisor for the staff of approximately 125 employees at the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District (Port of Lake Charles), performing and overseeing the full range of Human Resources functions, especially as they relate to Louisiana State Civil Service Rules. Maintaining confidentiality is crucial.

The position is being filled as a double incumbency. The selected candidate will train alongside the current HR Analyst pending her retirement. (Two individuals will occupy the same position until the current Analyst’s retirement.)

This is a Career Progression Group and may be filled at any level (A, B or C) depending upon qualifications and experience.
